Rachel Keen
Postdoctoral Researcher, KU
Welcome! I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Kansas and the Kansas Biological Station. My research interests broadly include plant ecophysiology, ecohydrology, and biogeochemistry of open ecosystems (grasslands, savannas, and shrublands). I completed my PhD at Kansas State University, where my research focused on the ecohydrological impacts of clonal shrub encroachment in tallgrass prairie. My current research continues to explore how vegetation alters soil structure, impacts carbon and nutrient cycling, and mediates water fluxes in ecosystems across the United States. My work is interdisciplinary, and I utilize methods and experimental approaches from plant ecophysiology, hydrology, and soil science to explore how vegetation influences critical zone function, particularly in the context of changing climate, land-use, and land-cover.
